Discover the Art of Staying Present This Mindfulness Day

In The Quality of Life study by the National Council of Social Service (NCSS), carried out in 2025, results have shown that 1 in 4 adults in Singapore experiences mild symptoms of depression or anxiety.
Amid busy schedules, it can be easy to overlook the importance of checking in with ourselves, and prioritising our mental wellness.
That is why as we marked Mindfulness Day on 12 September 2026, let’s take this opportunity to take a moment to slow down and reconnect with the present. Notice the little things, enjoy an activity without distraction, or give your full attention to the people around you.
To help you get started, we have rounded up a few activities you can try on your own or with loved ones. Make time for what matters, appreciate the present, and remember that every day is truly a new beginning.

Find Your Flow, One Stitch at a Time with The Club Made
For a hands-on way to unwind, try crochet. Focusing on each stitch gives you something simple to concentrate on, while the satisfaction of creating something yourself makes the activity rewarding from start to finish.
More than a craft, crochet became a meaningful part of the creative journey for Edwin Goh and Rachel Wan, owners of The Club Made, inspiring their work for our recent National Day initiative, ‘Begin Again’.
Featuring nine crochet pieces woven with stories from their personal experiences, the ‘Begin Again’ Fashion Collection invites us to unravel what’s holding us back and move forward with courage, comfort and hope.
If you are inspired to pick up a hook and create something of your own, The Club Made makes it easy to start, with beginner-friendly DIY kits, digital crochet patterns and breathable yarns that are created with tropical wear in mind.
Set aside an afternoon, choose a design and let your hands take the lead. Create something for yourself, or turn it into a shared activity with family and little ones. You may discover a new way to unwind and enjoy a hobby together.

Pause, Breathe, and Be Present with Brahm Centre
When we think about mindfulness, meditation is often one of the first things that comes to mind.
Whether you are new to it or looking to deepen your practice, Brahm Centre, which stands for “Building Resilient and Happy Minds,” offers science-based mindfulness programmes with meditation and breathing exercises to help you manage stress, improve focus, and build self-awareness.
Founded in 2012 by Angie Chew, the mental health charity was inspired by her own experience with anxiety, panic attacks and depression, where mindfulness became an important part of her recovery. Today, its holistic programmes support people at different stages of life, including working adults, parents, students, seniors and caregivers, empowering them to create their own happiness.
You can also take a break from the usual routine with their art and wellness programmes, featuring courses in painting, drawing and crafts. Spend an afternoon enjoying a hands-on activity with a loved one or simply take some time to unwind at your own pace.

Unravel Your Thoughts with The Tapestry Project Singapore
Sometimes, being present starts with paying attention to what is going on in your own mind.
Writing can give you space to pause and reflect on your thoughts, memories and experiences. You do not need to be a professional writer or have everything figured out. A feeling, a memory or even a single thought can be enough to get started.
At The Tapestry Project Singapore, storytelling is used to help people understand and make sense of their lived experiences. Founded in 2014, the community-based mental health charity creates supportive spaces through narrative practices, creative literary arts and peer support.
You can try Narrative Journaling, which combines expressive arts with narrative therapy techniques, or explore Tapestry’s narrative programmes and talks covering mental health, storytelling and self-empowerment.
You never know; your words might become one more thread in a tapestry of self-discovery. Sign up here.
