Unravel New Possibilities with Edwin Goh and Rachel Wan

To inspire all to open new possibilities, we have collaborated with Edwin Goh and Rachel Wan for our ‘Begin Again’ National Day initiative by sharing their personal stories through a collection of meaningful crochet creations.

In this blog, we take a closer look at the nine crochet pieces, uncovering the inspiration and stories woven into each creation. Discover the stories from Edwin and Rachel about what it means to let things go and move forward with courage, comfort and hope.

Presenting the ‘Begin Again’ Fashion Collection

1. A Moth To A Flame

“Reflecting a digital world engineered to overstimulate, and representing our unconscious attraction to screens as we scroll and tap without thinking, through the symbolism of a moth drawn to a glowing light, framed within a social media post.

I hope to demonstrate that the slowness of crocheting offers a quiet resistance – every stitch and loop marks a pause, and a deliberate choice to disconnect.

The piece calls not for rejection of the digital, but rather awareness within it. To consume with intention over compulsion, and to rest before the light burns you out.”

2. Bloom Again

“This piece was inspired by my first time living abroad in Sydney, and experiencing the enlightening shift from winter to spring.

From finding ourselves in cold, quiet seasons to gazing in wonder as flowers blossomed months later, I was reminded that growth is seasonal, and that we all, one day, bloom again.”

3. Dissolve

“This piece explores how dynamic identity can be, and should be when necessary.

At the top, structure and clean lines reflect the version we present to the world – composed, structured, and defined. As it moves downward, the form softens as the stitches open, representing the shedding of our past selves and the making of space for something lighter.

In reshaping my life, I realised that transformation begins with identity. When you allow yourself to become a renewed version, reality will follow. ”

4. Jacaranda Season

“Before moving to Sydney, I never knew trees could be any other colour. But one day, I turned a corner and I was astonished to find entire streets lined with purple jacarandas.

I hope to celebrate this unforgettable memory that reshaped my perspective on matters we had always taken as the norm.

Each granny square in this piece mirrors the jacaranda flowers, small on its own, but forming something more beautiful when you take a step back, meanwhile the gold buttons serve as a gentle love letter to that moment.”

5. Patched In Colour

“Crochet slowly brought joy back into our lives, and I hope to pay homage to this experience.

Instead of hiding the “broken” parts, we chose to highlight them by featuring bold, colourful stitches running along the seams, like glue holding everything together.

A reminder that the very things that hold us together can become the most beautiful parts of who we are.”

6. Play In A Monochrome World

“The stark contrast of black and white represents the serious, structured, and harsh adult world, while the rainbow buttons embody my inner child – playful, random, and entirely imperfect.

Through this piece, I hope to express that while growing up is inevitable, it doesn’t mean losing your colour in any way, and that it is never too late to reclaim your shine.”

7. Returning to Softness

“When I arrived in Sydney to start again, it was not easy, as I had been in survival mode for so long that I had forgotten softness was even an option.

The warm pinks and oranges represent me unraveling the “armour” I didn’t realise I was wearing, while the ties down the front serve as a reminder that I always get to choose how open I am.

Softness is never a weakness – it is strength in a different form – one that feels rewarding only when you allow yourself to embrace it again.”

8. Rorschach (What Do You See?)

This piece draws inspiration from the Rorschach Inkblot Test, where meaning is shaped by the viewer.

What is intriguing about this test is that the interpretation of the same form can differ for individuals at different moments – revealing one’s inner thoughts, perceptions, and emotions. Just as life changes over time, how we see the world depends on whether we give ourselves a chance to do so.

9. Storm Sweatshirt + Raincloud Beanie

“This piece unfolds as a narrative of resilience across time.

The storm on the front represents the present experience of distress, while the back reveals what eventually awaits: regrowth, color, and renewal.

Together, both sides put forth that storms are not endings but processes, and what feels like destruction may in fact be preparation for something beautiful.”
